Florida Trend magazine, the state’s leading business magazine, named Broward County-based Van Horn Law Group, P.A. as among Florida’s top 100 companies to work for in the category of best small companies. Van Horn Law Group is one of the top five bankruptcy firms in state and the largest bankruptcy firm in Broward County based on cases filed over the last 12 months (www.pacer.gov).
“I’m very proud of this award, because it illustrates how valuable and important our team is to the success of Van Horn Law Group,” said Chad Van Horn, founding partner attorney of the firm. “It is an honor to work with a team who brings so much to the table, from expertise and empathy to an incomparable work ethic and a commitment to helping clients in need.”
The dedication of the Van Horn Law Group team mirrors the firm’s mission: to restore peace of mind to individuals in financial distress by providing first-rate, affordable legal services with compassion, understanding, and respect. This philosophy filters down into all practice areas, including personal and corporate bankruptcy, student loan consolidation and litigation, estate planning/asset protection, LGBT estate planning/asset protection, foreclosure defense, corporate representation, debt negotiation, and civil litigation. Van Horn is also well known for reorganizing local businesses by negotiating and utilizing the Chapter 11 bankruptcy system.
To be selected for this award, Florida Trend partnered with Workforce Research Group to survey participating firms regarding company policies, practices and demographics. A second survey went to a randomly selected group of each firm’s employees, who responded – anonymously – to 72 statements on a five-point agreement scale. The survey also included two open-ended questions and seven demographic questions focused on leadership and planning; corporate culture and communications; role satisfaction; work environment; relationship with supervisor; training and development; pay and benefits; and overall engagement.
Van Horn Law Group made the cut because of its ongoing appreciation of its team. Some examples include: monthly team meetings where staffers are celebrated for their professional successes, excellent client reviews, and goals met; special team gatherings that include motivational speakers followed by social time, including wine tastings and over-the-top holiday parties; team participation in events supporting causes and events, such as Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids’ Sake; annual awards including Team of the Year, Client Choice Award and Team Member of the Year; and recognition for personal successes and celebrations of birthdays and holidays.
In addition to the Florida Trend award, Van Horn and his firm have received multiple recognitions for extensive community involvement. In 2021, his firm was named Law Firm of the Year by Legal Aid Service of Broward, and Van Horn was named a Florida Legal Awards On the Rise honoree by the Daily Business Review. In 2020, he received The Russell E. Carlisle Advocacy Award from Legal Aid Service of Broward, the Up & Comer Award from South Florida Business & Wealth, the National Philanthropy Day Individual Hero Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals, and the Legacy Builder Award from Legacy Lives Here, Inc. In 2018, he received the prestigious 40 Under 40 award by the South Florida Business Journal and was selected for Leadership Broward Class XXXVII. In 2017, he was named Florida Big of the Year out of 15,000 mentors statewide and Attorney of the Year by Legal Aid Service of Broward County.
