Building the Future of Law: How Van Horn Law Group Supports NSU’s Pro Bono Students

At Van Horn Law Group, giving back isn’t something we do on the side… It’s part of who we are as a firm. Every day, we help people rebuild their financial lives, overcome hardship, and find a path forward. That same spirit of service is what inspired us to invest in the next generation of lawyers through our endowed fund at Nova Southeastern University.

In 2025, NSU released an update on the Van Horn Law Group Endowed Pro Bono Honor Program Fund, which supports the Shepard Broad College of Law’s pro bono and public interest programs. The fund was created to encourage law students to engage in meaningful service early in their careers, and their impact is already being felt.

Celebrating Students Who Serve

During the 2024–2025 academic year, the endowed fund helped NSU host a special reception recognizing students who completed over 50 hours of pro bono work. These are future attorneys who are choosing to use their skills to help others, long before they ever earn their first paycheck.

Their service ranges from:

  • Supporting families facing legal barriers
  • Assisting people navigating complex financial issues
  • Providing legal help to underserved communities
  • Standing alongside clients who otherwise couldn’t afford representation

These students represent exactly the kind of lawyers we want more of in the world: ethical, compassionate, and driven by purpose.

Why This Fund Matters

Chad Van Horn, founder of Van Horn Law Group and an NSU Law alumnus, created this endowed fund to ensure that students with a heart for service always have the support they need.

“Pro bono work changes lives,” Chad says. “It changes the lives of clients in crisis, but it also changes the lives of the students doing the work. Supporting them is investing in a stronger community for all of us.”

As the endowed fund grows, it moves closer to NSU’s $25,000 distribution threshold, which will allow it to provide ongoing, annual support for pro bono initiatives.

A Long-Term Commitment to Community

Van Horn Law Group believes that great lawyers aren’t defined just by legal knowledge… they’re defined by character, compassion, and service to others. By supporting NSU’s public interest and pro bono programs, we are proud to uplift the students who will go on to carry these values forward.
